Description
Pessac-Leognan Chateau Haut Brion 1999
Variety: Merlot 60%, Cabernet Sauvignon 28% e Cabernet Franc 12%
Intense and fascinating garnet red.
The nose expresses sensations of great complexity and harmony. The aromas of red and black berries, blackberry, blueberry with raspberry and cherry stand out. Light notes of vanilla resulting from the wood, accompany the caramel and nutmeg. Even undergrowth ideas increase the value of the whole.
The palate is perfectly balanced, so that all its parts are in harmony with each other. The well-defined structure, welcomes the volume of the wine with elegance, for a final of a fabulous softness.
Perfect to drink now, but as tastings show over time, it still has great potential for further aging.
Pessac-Leognan Chateau Haut Brion 1999
The vineyard of the Chateau Haut-Brion is administratively located in the municipality of Pessac, a few kilometers south-west of Bordeaux. It is part of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, north of the Graves de Bordeaux wine region.
The soil is mainly composed of gravel, a factor that greatly increases the value of the vineyard. Pebbles are of different qualities of quartz, while the subsoil is made of clay, sand, limestone and falun (shell limestone), created during the glaciations at the end of the Tertiary period and during the Quaternary.
The thickness varies from about 20 centimeters to more than 3 meters, with a good slope, so as to have a natural drainage of the soil.
The vineyards of Haut-Brion enjoy a fortunate climatic environment: the summers are hot and dry, the autumns are mild. Vines are 20 to 30 meters above sea level and escape the fog of the lower Garonne valley and the occasional heavy rains of the Gironde heath.
