Description
Brunello di Montalcino 2016 Ferrero
Variety. Sangiovese 100%
Ruby red, with iridescent garnet shades.
The nose is gorgeous. Son of an excellent vintage, it stretches with grace and authority. Among the first are the fruity ones of cherry and red plum, and of dried rose petals. The picture becomes complex with tobacco, leather, nutmeg and aromatic herbs. Intense, clean and classy, one can only compliment.
On the palate it confirms and relaunches expectations. Superb in volume, as in the elegance with which the structure supports it. Wonderful the sum of the parts, but also the details of each of them. Thus the tannic texture, as well as the punctuated minerality, insist and give consistency and rigor to the sip. He has years ahead of him to get even better, yet right now he’s already fabulous.
Excellent representation of Sangiovese da Brunello, able to excite and satisfy.
Brunello di Montalcino 2016 Ferrero
Ferrero cultivates the Brunello grapes in the Pascena vineyard: it has the size of 3 hectares, and they are all planted with Sangiovese. It is located under the village of Sant’Angelo in Colle, about halfway between S.Angelo in Colle and S.Angelo Scalo, two hamlets on the south-facing slope of the municipality of Montalcino. The altitude is about 250m a.s.l.
The fertilizations, aimed at enriching the nitrogen in the soil, are limited in quantity and are exclusively organic: the manure and the planting of field beans, between the rows, during the winter months. In the month preceding the harvest they practice thinning, selecting the best bunches for each plant and the correct quantity to bring to complete ripeness.
The training system is spurred cordon with a density of 4,600 plants per hectare.
After the harvest carried out manually and with rigorous selection of the best grapes, alcoholic fermentation begins in stainless steel fermenters for 20 days at temperatures below 28 ° C.
The refinement takes place for two years in French oak barrels from Allier with dimensions of 10 and 30 hl. and then for 2 years in the bottle.
